Family Session Frequently Asked Questions

Where do family sessions take place?

Family sessions are photographed at The Lansing Studio, a beautiful natural-light studio with clean, neutral backdrops that photograph beautifully for timeless family portraits.

When are family sessions scheduled?

I typically schedule 1–2 family session dates at The Lansing Studio each month, depending on studio availability. If you're interested in a session, feel free to reach out and I’ll share upcoming availability.

Do you ever offer mini sessions at The Lansing Studio?

Yes! Occasionally I offer themed mini sessions at The Lansing Studio, such as holiday or Mother’s Day sessions. These are announced when dates become available.

Can I book a mini session if I have multiple families interested?

Possibly! If you have more than one family interested, feel free to reach out. Because the studio requires a rental fee, I typically need to schedule multiple sessions on the same date to make the studio rental worthwhile.

Why are sessions scheduled during the day?

The Lansing Studio is a natural-light studio, which means sessions are photographed during daylight hours to ensure the best possible lighting for your photos.

Do you offer outdoor family photography?

At this time, I do not offer outdoor sessions. With three teens involved in sports, my evenings and weekends are often very busy. Studio sessions allow me to provide a more consistent schedule and experience for families.

Why are family sessions held at The Lansing Studio instead of your home studio?

I do not photograph children older than two years old in my home studio. The Lansing Studio offers more space for families and children, making it a much more comfortable setting for family sessions.

What should we wear?

The studio features a very neutral setting, so most colors photograph beautifully. I personally recommend soft neutrals and coordinated tones, which help keep the focus on your family and create timeless images.

Are dogs allowed in family sessions?

Yes, well-trained dogs are welcome, though they are not allowed on the furniture.

What if we arrive late?

The Lansing Studio operates on a strict schedule, so sessions must begin and end at their scheduled time. Unfortunately, I’m not able to extend sessions for late arrivals, so please plan to arrive a few minutes early.

Should I wait for a mini session?

Mini sessions are offered occasionally throughout the year and often have specific themes or limited dates. Because they are scheduled based on studio availability and rental costs, they are not always available when families need updated photos.

If you already have a timeframe in mind or prefer a simple, neutral family session, booking a regular family session at The Lansing Studio is usually the best option.

Mini sessions can be a great fit for some families, but a full session offers more flexibility, variety, and a more relaxed pace.
