One of the most common questions expecting parents ask is: when should we book a newborn photographer?
If you're planning newborn photography in Lansing, MI, the best time to book is usually earlier than most people expect.
Most families reserve their newborn session during the second trimester, typically between 20–28 weeks.
At this stage:
Because newborn sessions are booked around due dates, calendars tend to fill quickly—especially for those first few weeks after birth.
Newborn sessions take place during a very short window—usually within the first 1–2 weeks after baby is born.
To allow flexibility for babies arriving early or late, I only take a limited number of due dates each month—typically 4–5 newborns.
This ensures I can adjust session dates as needed while still providing a calm, unhurried experience for every family.
Because of this, availability can fill quickly.
When you book your session:
This flexible approach means you don’t need to worry about timing—everything is already taken care of.
If you’re already in your third trimester—or your baby has arrived—it’s still worth reaching out.
Occasionally, last-minute availability opens up, and I’m always happy to see if I can fit you in.
Booking your newborn photographer early allows everything to feel relaxed, organized, and stress-free once your baby arrives.
